The original marble sculpture By John Bell was commissioned by Lord Lansdowne and was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1848.
She is the beautiful pagan warrior featured in Tassos Gerusalemme Liberata (1580).Â
During the battle between pagan & Christian armies Clorinda is wounded by her lover Tancred, a christian nobleman, who
failed to recognize her in her armour.
