Napoleon as Caesar, a bust, after the antique marble by Canova, 1804.
A Carara marble bust, with antique gilt crown, and lettering.
In 1802 Napoleon Bonaparte summoned the finest Italian neoclassical sculptor, Antonio Canova, to Paris to do a series of sculptures of Napoleon.
After Napoleon saw one of the pieces, a marble relief with him wearing a laurel crown, he commissioned this large version.
